2018 Closet Happenings

While every other person I know is watching Marie Kondo Tidying up on Netflix, I have my own method. I edit all the time. I cannot take a bag and "be grateful" and just fill it up. Every single thing that needs to be reviewed was acquired for a reason and it cost me hard earned money. I must take my time. 

Anyhow, for the last couple of years I have been documenting my additions and editions to the closet. 

In terms of 2018 closet edition goals,  was to get rid of at least 180 items. I fell short by 12 items, below is detail.

When it comes to new items in the closet, that is another story. This year my budget had been set at 1,400.00 USD, but I spent 1,953.51 USD, meaning I went over by 446.49 USD. Gulp.

What's going on in your closet?

December edits

My December edits began with a Carven top that also waltzed in this month. It just does not fit well. The two white button shirts from Forever 21 had were stained or yellowing.

  

These silver Gap flats were rarely worn, maybe 4 times. They are from 2012, paid 21.30 USD.

The black scallop Sam Edelman flats from 2017,  26.75 USD. These shoes fell apart too quickly, just ten wears.

Closet Edit Earnings

Every so often the question continuously pops up: "What do you do with your closet edits?" 
My answer a few years ago would have been "I donate everything".

These days, my answer is: "Sort and then donate or send to consignment.."

During 2018 I got more serious about it and I began to track it and to my surprise in 2018 I made some cash off of my closet edits.

White Button Shirt

    

    

    

      

 

One of the most common garments I own are white shirts, tee shirts and blouses. I am always on the lookout for these. 

In November 2013 I purchased a white light cotton button shirt at the Forever 21 store opening for which I had a gift card, so I ended paying 7.25 USD for it.  I wore it at least 25 times, taking CPW to just 0.34 cents.

I have held on to this shirt for longer than I should have as it's stained in the front and on the sleeve. Since I did not want to let is go I always rolled the sleeves to cover stain. For the stain on the front of the shirt, as you can see above I tried covering it by layering with scarves or necklaces. But it's time to let it go.

November Closet Editions

  

 

My edits have been poor and poorly tracked this month:

• Butterfly print button shirt from Available brand, worn at least half a dozen times in 10 years. It began to thin and buttons became undone as its tight.
• Say Me brand leopard print jumpsuit, worn at least 7 times, too tight.
• Jones New York white tee shirt, stained. This dates to 2013, worn at least 6 times I got a good cost per wear.
• Black quilted flats, lost the gold buckle on one of them. Worn at least 10 times, reasonable cost per wear.
• Brown leather mules, handed down by a friend. Worn once, not for me, so out.

Just 5 items.

October edits

This is what left the closet in October:

A Cover Stitched brand top. Worn once. It was snug, the result of being in a hurry and not trying a garment on.

                               

Grane mint tank top, purchased for 3.99 USD in  April 2012, worn at least 5 times. Lumiere paisley print shirt, a Hand Me Down worn 2 or 3 times.

 

Donna Morgan printed dress from a Swap meet and the MNG Mango printed trousers purchased in 2012 for 23.00 USD worn at least 13 times, estimate CPW 1.75 USD.

Most Dissapointing Purchase

I usually share my best consignment shop finds, this time around I'd like to share the most disappointing purchase I have made in the last two years.  

It's the black Moschino Love quilted bucket bag purchased in July 2016. I fell in love the moment I saw it, there was no doubt I was taking it home. 

It's light, great space, could be worn on the shoulder or as a cross body. That being said, the draw leather string began to peel. Then the bottom of the bag too. 

I must add that I take really good care of my bags. Never put them on the floor, wipe them clean, store them properly.... I felt totally cheated.

September Closet Edits

Edits this month begin with a leopard belt. Now that it's "trending" I chose to wear it and guess what? It began to peel, so off it goes. I was quite upset. Also out of the closet is my big jade teardrop necklace that I am over with. 

 

My brown Bandolino ankle boots, been to at least 4 continents and worn at least 10 times. I have no idea the CPW as they're much likely pre blog. They're really worn out, more on the inside than on the outside. These were so comfortable but it was time to let go. It's one of my last pair of boots. The only other boots I own are rain boots and snow boots.

Also out are my grey velvet flats by Presumidas. 0.26 cents per wear. 

My LuckyCom yellow blouse purchased in 2013. Worn over 17 times, taking CPW to about 0.50 cents. It began to pill, had pulls on the fabric and stains on the inside of the collar.
