2016: My Closet in Numbers

For the last 6 years I have been tracking my closet edits and additions. I do this per month, per cost and per type of item. As much as I hate numbers I am a sucker for statistics and love knowing an item's cost per wear is or how long it lasted in the closet.

This year I added 96 pieces to the closet, most of them dresses, 18 to be exact.
These are detailed above and I miraculously stayed within my budget of 2016 established here .
One thing I did not do, that was also a 2016 closet goal was get rid of at least 200 items,
I only got rid of 134 - most of them being tops (40 of them) as you can see below.

As for shopping habits, this year I thrifted more, invested in higher quality handbags and got serious with my shoe edits (22 of them gone!)
In regards to closet goals for 2017, let's just say that I want to get rid of at least 200 items, stay within a 1,500.00 USD budget and most important make another attempt at a shopping ban.
My first attempt was back in 2010, which lasted 6 months (here is when it ended).
For the 2017 shopping ban I'll be holding hands with Lydia and we're going for three months, so it should be an interesting journey. Let me know if you'd like to join ;)

Out in December: Closet edits

Panama hat with brown beaded belt cord
Elizabeth Blair dress (worn 3 times in 7+ years)
Black Aerosoles wedges purchased in 2011 worn at least 17 times
Faded turquoise tank top
Pink Daisy Fuentes sweater, worn about 7 times,
I loved it but it had a huge blue pen mark that I no longer
wanted to have to hide behind chunky necklaces and scarves.
Red halter dress that I wore to two weddings a few years ago,
it no longer fit. But I was happy to pass it on to a coworker.
Fuchsia color block strapless dress, just one wear and I'm done.

Cottura black jumper dress just 3 wears and out the door.
Flower filigree silver earring and pendant set.

Ten edits.

Editing the closet in November

I've been procrastinating in my closet edits, giving things too much thought, so its just two pairs of shoes this month. A grey pair of heels by Vince Camuto which need no explanation if you just look at the picture, worn just 23 times in a year these shoes were a total disappointment and looking back at all my Vince Camuto shoes, the brand does not deliver, the shoes fall apart really quick even though they are leather.
My gold ViaScar flats purchased in Peru were peeling but in this case I have no complaints these were just ten bucks and I wore them almost to a dollar per wear. How about you ? How are your closet edits coming along ?

October closet edits

Here we go again, another month of closet edits: Blue trousers by Sculpture, were not working anymore, asymmetrical scarf print top from Zara collar stretched and could not be repaired:(. Purple and white polka dot top by Sawary the elastic also stretched but I did not care much for this top.

Burgundy flower and butterfly Bandolino print heels and Lela Rose for Payless green heels were no longer in good shape and they had very little recent wear.
My grey flats which I loved had stretched as I walked into a puddle of water. Sheila recommended I soak them so maybe they would shrink back (a superb idea) however they did not.

Just 6 items in October.
What was the last item you gave away?

September edit

Edited the closet just in time for the flea market !
My "Sex and the City" grey pumps by Hypnotic were
very, very uncomfortable to walk in, worn maybe four or
five times, they were a burden, so it's time to let go.
My black Giuseppe Zanotti sandals also left, the heel was
not sturdy enough for me to feel safe to walk in, so they
found a new home at the flea market, sold for 30.00 USD.
I don't need a pair of shoes that take my confidence away.
Another item that I just did not want to have around
was my black Michael Kors tote, it was in perfect shape
but its just one of those things you no longer want.
Sold at the flea market for 26.00 USD.
Vintage black leather and stretch, not worn often
sold at the flea market for 4.00 USD.
Brown leather Tennis belt sold for 8.00 USD at the
flea market, dates from 2011, purchased in
Colombia, wore it just 2 or 3 times in 5 years,
it is not worth holding on to.
From a trip to Peru, this Michele Belau brocade extra
wide belt dates to at least 2010 was worn just twice in
six years ! Sold at the flea market to a friend for 8.00 USD.
Reversible black and brown belt that was in bad shape.
Black stretch belt that was no longer working for me.
Striped Charlotte Russe tube top, and sent to the thrift shop
my white H&M tshirt with crochet flower as it was too tight.
Unit USA scarf print top that got very little wear, orange and
purple houndstooth print tshirt by Go International for Target.

Black tank by Poof and AHA Collection flower print wrap top.
Grey cocktail dress Nine West, just two wears in 6 years.
A Forever 21 jean jumper, barely worn and unflattering.

Finally got rid of several headbands (still have a drawer full..)
sold them at the flea market for a dollar each.
A neon pink rhinestone necklace from H&M.

21 items. Not bad. How are your edits coming along ?
