September Closet Editions

Editing the closet has become a must for me lately, below is what's out and probably in a consignment store by the time I post this.

George turquoise velvet blazer was too small, purple cowl neck top by Isaac Mizrahi for Target got little wear and when it did I had to make an effort, plus it was too small and pulled in the front.
Zebra print tee shirt Nina Firenze. Elie Tahari sheer silk blouse, dates from 2010, CPW on this is about 1.43 USD, not bad for a blouse that had an original price tag of over 300.00 USD.
Off white sheer bow blouse Divided by H&M, the bow was uncontrollable and I barely wore this shirt. The Classiques Entier houndstooth print vest, CPW 4.28 USD, was very difficult to pull off.
Studio M cream silk blouse worn 5 times in 8 years, it was not easy to wear and it always had to be layered. The Dudu brand green and light blue striped button down shirt, it served its purpose.

White puffy sleeve Kensie dress has been in the closet unworn since about 2010, CPW until then was 2.50 USD.  It's yellowed from hanging in the closet I had it washed and ironed but its certainly not the bright white it use to be. I usually wear things before letting go but this dress is also tight ;(  The black tux dress from Richard Chai for Target, also gone and hanging in the consignment store.
Green dress by Evan Picone purchased in 2011, worn three times in 6 years, CPW 7.35 USD. The Yoko Girl striped shirtdress was a collaboration with Zaful that did not fit well, so off it goes.
DKNY boyfriend jeans, bad fit. Dark grey Cato trousers no longer fit well, these were purchased in March 2011, worn about 11 times, CPW down to approximately 1.26 USD.
Burberry Britt military green trousers, purchased mid 2016 did not look good on me. I wore them several times and took wear down to 4.63 USD, but I give up.  Brown skirt no brand, purchased in July 2011 just 4 wears in 8 years, it was tight and short.
A braided brown belt that began to peel, a pair of gold tone ball earrings that began to tarnish, besides, if you have noticed, I usually don't go for styles that have that type of hook on the ear.
Black Soda flip flops that date to 2013 worn just twice on the blog. I don't wear flip flops as street wear, just to the beach or informal outdoor moments, but I am sure I got a good CWP as these are worn down. A black leather belt that looked good o the outside but the inside, had a covering that became flakey.
My colourful ethnic back back from Peru, as much as I love the colour I don't to back packs. My Elvis Presley special edition bag dates from 2009, it got about 17 wears back in the day but then I totally forgot about it until a few days ago when I wore it and noticed the handles were peeling.

Black Christian Siriano for Payless purchased in January 2013,  worn 17 times, CPW  2.14 USD.
Closet edits 23, I had originally aimed at 30 pieces for this month (one per day), but I think 23 is quite acceptable.

Tuxed again

Black dress Richard Chai for Target, similar - White lace vintage blouse no brand, similar - Red suede heels Melissa, similar

Black tote bag Roberto Cavalli, similar

A few days ago, I wore this long lost dress in this post and received positive comments on it. So, I took it out for yet another spin to reconfirm I was making the right choice in letting it go and have a new life in someone else's closet. I am the first to admit that this dress looks good on pictures but the fabric continues to be clingy, the silhouette from the back is not flattering and quite boxy, also the buttons and side of the vest look pulled and wrinkled which is nothing more than evidence that it's a bit snug. The tux dress is out to find a new home ;)

Zebra and I

Jeans Red Valentino - Zebra print tee shirt Nina Firenze - Black flats Vera Wang Lavender - Black tote bag Roberto Cavalli

I am the first to admit that there is something special about this tee shirt. Just the tee, not the look. The light fabric, the print..in fact now that I am writing about it I am having second thoughts. This zebra motive tee shirt has been around since 2011 and has an amazing cost per wear: less than 0.20 cents each,  which has got to be one of my lowest CPW's ever ! Today is its last wear. What was the last item you removed from your closet and why ?

Brocade skirt & tee

Printed brocade skirt Merona, similar - Mustard suede peep toe heels Zara, similar
White tee shirt with gold anchor buttons Talbots, similar

Brown Madison tote bag Coach
If you had told me a few years ago I'd be walking out the door in a brocade skirt with a simple white tee shirt I would have not thought it possible. Just like I would not have imagined that I'd own more skirts and dresses than jeans... Then again, change is the only certain thing.

Velvet & Sequins

Black velvet trousers Express - Black heels Christian Siriano for Payless - Pink Hello Kitty in black sequin top -
Bag tote bag Roberto Cavalli
I still love Hello Kitty like the day I first met her in elementary school. I still force myself to floss as it's yet to become a habit. I still don't care if velvet and sequins are not considered day time appropriate...

Tux dress

Black dress Richard Chai for Target, similar - Zebra print heels Bershka - Black quilted bucket bag Love Moschino, similar

Tux like dress Richard Chai for Target, similar here - White Peter Pan collar vintage button down shirt Saint Tropez West

I've always thought this satin like dress resembles a tux. It's a dress that has been around since the beginning of the blog and was part of a Richard Chai for Target collaboration.  Wore it twice in 2009 here and then here, afterwards I forgot about it until a few weeks ago when I wore it with booties. If you clicked to see the pictures on previous wears its evident that the dress was loose then, not so these days. I'm the first to admit that the fabric is still clingy and not very flattering. However I had to wear it again in order to be fully convinced to let this tux dress go...

Ethnic backpack

Raw hem jeans Miss Sixty - Red vintage sweatshirt Benetton, similar by Champion - Ethnic backpack from Peru, similar

Mustard suede peep toe heels Zara, similar mules here - Ethnic backpack from Peru, similar in blue

I am a fan of ethnic fashion and love to see it on others, but when it comes to me I prefer it in small dosis. Like today, when the bag of choice was this ethnic colourful Peruvian backpack which I've had for a little over a year and yet its never been worn.
As much as I love the color and how light this backpack is, wearing it reminded me of why I don't carry this type of bag. It's impractical, slouchy, with very little compartments and the drawstring is just not doing it for me. Plus, I had a bad experience in Paris while carrying a backpack. So, if you've been around you know what this sounds like: first and last wear. What's your take on ethnic trends and on backpack bags ?

Stone

Jeans Gap - White tee shirt - Silver flats Chiara Ferragni - Black quilted bucket bag Love Moschino

Yesterday I shared my interest in history with you. Another of my interests are old buildings and if you have been around for a while you'll probably remember.
I've mentioned it before and have written a few posts like this or this where I have been able to take photographs in front of these 1940s homes around my neighbourhood. For me, one of the appealing elements is the stone, brick and slab used to cover the walls that surround these homes. While they were apparently a "thing" back when these were built, nowadays they've become rare, at least in the city. How about you ? Do you have any particular interests ?

History and Houndstooth

Houndstooth print trousers H&M, almost identical  - White plumeti / Swiss dot blouse Stradivarius, similar
Black quilted bucket bag Love Moschino

Black heels Christian Siriano for Payless
I am a fan of history, I can watch hours of historial documentaries to my husband's disdain. I am also a true lover of all things houndstooth. I was curious as of where this print came from, I figured it was probably a print from the 40's and that it originated somewhere in Europe. After just a few Google searches I realised I was not far off in regards to its origin. Houndstooth apparently originated in Northern Europe, very likely Scotland. However I was totally lost when it came to the oldest known garment with this weave, would you have imagined it's actually B.C. ?
