The Closet Wrap Up

I love a good well thought of closet edit. Not impulsive, not because I read about the Marie Kondo method, not because I have not worn it in six months.
My closet editions are a thought of process that leave no space for regret.
You won't see me pack 6 big garbage bags at once, as you know I edit every.single.month and it works for me.
Allow me to add that I not only do this with clothes but also things around the home. As for the clothes I edit from my closet: I donate, consign, pass on garments to friends. Before I do any of the these I wash them, sew buttons, fix zippers, mend hems and have garments ironed. I see it as an act of courtesy to that person receiving it.
Below are my closet edits in numbers: 123 pieces.

I edited and also added. This year however, I added a lot of garments purchased in consignment shops, this is different to previous years when I shopped more items from regular stores. A total of 116 pieces entered my closet in 2017, just 7 pieces short of what I edited (123 items). In those 116 pieces I spent 941.95 USD, an average of 8.12 USD per item. But, I have to add that I received many as gifts and hand me downs. Tops and shoes were the items I purchased the most, unlike last year when it was all about dresses.

As for goals, my 2017 closet goals were simple: Get rid of at least 200 items, this I did not accomplish as I only got rid of 123. Second goal was to have a shopping ban, I did and it lasted 4 months. Third and final closet goal was to spend a maximum of 1,500 USD and I spent 941.95 USD. Two out of  3 goals accomplished works for me.
For 2018, my budget is 1,400.00 USD, I want to get rid of at least 180 items and throw in a shopping ban, maybe mid year.
Oh and this year I had a consignment shop income of 176.00 USD from some of those edits.
What are your closet goals ?

December edit

December did not allow many edits, I was a whirlwind of a month. However some pieces were edited, like this Nine West printed one shoulder dress, worn once it was a hand me down.
Two pairs of flats: red Stradivarius flats worn at least 30 times, taking CPW to less than a dollar per wear. Also a pair of embroidered leather flats purchased in Morocco but never worn :(
Black Tommy Hilfiger polo, worn 5 times, it was a gift but it was not a garment I reached for often or was totally happy wearing. Grey satin top Pretty Good, it's been around since at least 2010 and only worn 4 times, off it goes.
Two tank tops: A lace one from Express, was a hand me down, worn just once and it does not work for me. The black tank top from Volar was very in bad shape.
Finally a pair of Miss Sixty jeans, worn just twice, I got a good cost per wear but it did not fit well.

Marimekko for H&M printed top, I found a small hole in it and decided to part with it.

9 items in one month.
Did you edit any items in December ?

November edits

The slower I edit, the more aware I become that I cannot stop. Here's what left the closet in November.

Koaj burgundy tassel loafers, just 10 wears in 4 years.
Purchased in October 2013, CWP  2.66 USD.

White sleeveless Bizz ruffle top, I had mixed feelings on letting go, but it was really worn out, worn on the blog at least six times. This lavender sheer top has been around since at least 2010. Worn just four times in seven years, it was sheer and the elastic on the sleeves loosened.
This cream sleeveless lo hi top from Zara was thrifted in October, after two wears I realised it was not a keeper (cpw 1.07 USD). This grey sweater from Zara was purchased in 2014 for 10.70 USD, it was piling, maybe because it had at least 13 wears!

Four sunglasses were damaged this month, as I write this post I still cannot believe it.

A pair of teal Kenneth Cole sunglasses, purchased for 12.99 USD in March 2014, 58 wears, CPW 0.23 cents. That same month I also purchased a pair of Swell suede sunglasses for 16.19 USD, while I did not count how many times they were worn I am pretty sure I took the cpw to cents as I loved this pair and am actually looking for a replacement.

Another damaged pair was my oversized purple sunglasses, purchased in October 2014 for 1.07 USD at the Dollar store, I am sure I got these to pennies per wear. Finally a pair of brown Tommy Hilfiger sunglasses purchased in September 2012 for 9.99 USD. These brown ones were worn the most, they will be missed.

9 items this month.

October Closet Editions

Editing this month was not that fructiferous. A blue and yellow print dress I made, the first ever. Finishing was not up to par so I will let this go and try to make a new one. Also the turquoise sequin and straw bag that I had already fixed peeling handles for (see how I fixed it here). The handles and bag were looking too worn out.
Two satin tops: one black Peter Pan collar horseshoe and horse print top from Via Vai and a black striped top from H&M. The horse print one got a 2.75 USD CPW, worn just 8 times since 2012. The one from H&M has been around since about 2011 and worn just about 8 times. Both of these were not great fitting and did not get much wear, so off they go.

A pair of black leather boots made in Spain. They did some traveling but lately they have not gotten much wear.
Finally a red bracelet a friend gave me years ago, the red cord began to peel. Before letting go I removed the charm and repurposed it ;) You know I am a recycler-hoarder at heart.

6 items this month. How are your closet edits coming along ?

September Closet Editions

Editing the closet has become a must for me lately, below is what's out and probably in a consignment store by the time I post this.

George turquoise velvet blazer was too small, purple cowl neck top by Isaac Mizrahi for Target got little wear and when it did I had to make an effort, plus it was too small and pulled in the front.
Zebra print tee shirt Nina Firenze. Elie Tahari sheer silk blouse, dates from 2010, CPW on this is about 1.43 USD, not bad for a blouse that had an original price tag of over 300.00 USD.
Off white sheer bow blouse Divided by H&M, the bow was uncontrollable and I barely wore this shirt. The Classiques Entier houndstooth print vest, CPW 4.28 USD, was very difficult to pull off.
Studio M cream silk blouse worn 5 times in 8 years, it was not easy to wear and it always had to be layered. The Dudu brand green and light blue striped button down shirt, it served its purpose.

White puffy sleeve Kensie dress has been in the closet unworn since about 2010, CPW until then was 2.50 USD.  It's yellowed from hanging in the closet I had it washed and ironed but its certainly not the bright white it use to be. I usually wear things before letting go but this dress is also tight ;(  The black tux dress from Richard Chai for Target, also gone and hanging in the consignment store.
Green dress by Evan Picone purchased in 2011, worn three times in 6 years, CPW 7.35 USD. The Yoko Girl striped shirtdress was a collaboration with Zaful that did not fit well, so off it goes.
DKNY boyfriend jeans, bad fit. Dark grey Cato trousers no longer fit well, these were purchased in March 2011, worn about 11 times, CPW down to approximately 1.26 USD.
Burberry Britt military green trousers, purchased mid 2016 did not look good on me. I wore them several times and took wear down to 4.63 USD, but I give up.  Brown skirt no brand, purchased in July 2011 just 4 wears in 8 years, it was tight and short.
A braided brown belt that began to peel, a pair of gold tone ball earrings that began to tarnish, besides, if you have noticed, I usually don't go for styles that have that type of hook on the ear.
Black Soda flip flops that date to 2013 worn just twice on the blog. I don't wear flip flops as street wear, just to the beach or informal outdoor moments, but I am sure I got a good CWP as these are worn down. A black leather belt that looked good o the outside but the inside, had a covering that became flakey.
My colourful ethnic back back from Peru, as much as I love the colour I don't to back packs. My Elvis Presley special edition bag dates from 2009, it got about 17 wears back in the day but then I totally forgot about it until a few days ago when I wore it and noticed the handles were peeling.

Black Christian Siriano for Payless purchased in January 2013,  worn 17 times, CPW  2.14 USD.
Closet edits 23, I had originally aimed at 30 pieces for this month (one per day), but I think 23 is quite acceptable.
