Well made

Red skirt H&M - White button shirt Forever 21 - Black cropped cardigan H&M
Zebra print heels Bershka - Black vintage leather bag Croft & Barrow
This red skirt is as far as it could be from couture. But, the moment I laid my eyes on it, certain things stood out that made me think "this is a well made item".
One of these was the fabric: thick and sturdy, a blend of polyester and viscose that was very soft to the touch. Another sign of craftsmanship was the concealed zipper, which passes as just another dart on the skirt. The cut, construction and fit were a lot more than I ever thought I could expect for a 49.95 USD priced item at H&M (I got it on sale). On the down side there was no lining but since the skirt is quite thick and it fit so well, I went for it.
These are just a few things that I look at when considering a garment for purchase, if its not on the "love at first sight" category. So, I'd like to know what is it that tells you a garment is "well made" ?

What a gorgeous skirt, and I love the backdrop of your photos too--it makes your skirt really stand out! I'm not sure what exactly makes me say something is well made, but I can just tell it's well-constructed.

When you have a good eye you can get awesome pieces like that skirt for a great price. For me the fact that you can't tell it comes from a fast fashion retailer is one of the first things that makes me think it is well-made.

It's a very nice red skirt - and it looks fabulous on you!

What I look for: the feel of the fabric to see if it's quality. I also look inside, to see how it's made (I like French seams, or at least no ragged edges). I want to see lining, or at least some nice details, like pockets, a hook, snap or button that holds the top of the zip together.

It is a lovely skirt too! :)

I try to make sure the basics are covered when I buy things - I've hard far too many pieces with loose stitching! But I'm sure that there are pieces in my wardrobe that aren't as well made as they could be.

What a great outfit you put together-and out of a suitcase while traveling! Fabrics, details and finishing touches are the main things I look for to determine the quality of a garment. It looks like you found a winner in that red skirt!
