I am always looking for ways to organize my stuff. Because there is plenty of it, my husband can testify. Scarves, shoes, earrings, rings, necklaces, brooches... My final aim is to be able to see everything when I open a drawer. I do know that the only way for that to happen is to get rid of some of them. But while that happens, well, here are some of tips I rely on for organizing my necklaces.
1. Evaluate the size of your collection.
2. Designate one area (if possible) for storing the collection.
3. Buy non adhesive liners for the drawers to keep necklaces from moving.
4. Invest in jewelry organizers, organizer box or plain cardboard boxes.
5. Empty everything on the floor, do it carefully and arrange by type: necklace, earring, ring, bracelet, brooch. Then store silver toned items separately from the gold tone.
6. Declutter as you go, even if it's just one piece.
In my case, I will show you how I organize my costume jewelry. The designated area for storage is this 6 drawer storage unit on casters, similar here. I chose this particular unit because the drawers are wide and not so deep. Here is another option that is quite the problem solver. You get the idea.
A few trays with compartments like the ones below, works wonders for special pieces.
Smaller trays with compartments like this 20 piece one for under 6.00 USD is very good for storing earrings. Below you can see three different trays.

Non adhesive liners for the drawers are a must for me as I need for necklaces to stay in place. It's they same kind I buy for the kitchen.
To make most of the space you can invest in trays or use that box from your MacBook air as you can see below or any tray like box for that matter.

If you have a lot of rings, you can consider a tray option with the roll storage like below or just make your own, here's an idea via youtube.
Finally for bracelets I went in and bought a storage rack and used a wine storage box (below right) and stacked the rest.
I know its not pristine but it's what it actually looks like in real life and for me it works.
I'd love to hear any ideas on how you store your costume jewelry.

Definitely important for everything to have it's place! I hang my bigger necklaces and use a square organizer for my dainty ones. They each have their own little cubby in a clear plastic tray.
I don't have too much jewelry so its easy for me to organize. Sweaters is where I have an issue ;)

It looks like you have a wonderful organizational method!
Wow, you have a huge collection! I feel better about mine, now, ha ha! I also need to see everything or I forget I have things. I've tried to limit myself to two big jewelry boxes (one for costume, one for vintage); each has compartments and good storage for finding things. I also use a small crystal dish for my stud earrings. I like to root around in it. I have a cloth bag that is NOT good storage, because I forget everything in it, but it's fun to go through it once in a while for inspiration - only 6 big chunky necklaces in it. My favourite organizer is the two-tiered dessert dish caddy thing that I store my cuffs in - they are so easy to see and it doesn't take up much room.
Thanks for this peek into your collection, Lorena!
I've always wished I had a vintage wood flat file cabinet with the drawers lined in velvet for my jewelry collection. But it would be a large piece, both in size and monetary investment. So for now, everything is just sitting on my dresser.

Interesting post, I like to see how another bloggers organize closet. I know You have a lot of jewerly, It is necesary to organize it, but I have one quite small box with all my necklace and brancelets. Earring I do not use, rings too, I have 5 brooch :D Ok, I am not fan of jewerly, I prefer clear outfit, perhaps therefore I am architecture - in the study I learned to clean the project, to put emphasis on the main idea.
