Yesterday morning I finally finished packing my fourteen day trip suit case. I worked on it for three nights in a row, it was a tough one to pack because of the weather and the many activities involved. Regardless, one of the first things I packed were my Kate Spade flats.

I arrived at my first stop, Montevideo in Uruguay today at 1:00 a.m., rose early to have breakfast and walked the 1925's home garden to take these pictures.

When I got into the car to go to work I looked down to realise the bow on one my flats was missing. Later that evening I learned Kate Spade had passed away, when I became aware it was depression I could not comprehend how someone who had sparked and transmitted so much joy could get there.
Then again we can never really know what goes on behind a smile. We can never know if when we ask someone "How are you?" a reply that says "I'm ok" means the person is really ok.

All I can say is that the moment I get home I am going to call one of my friends who has been without a job since last year and having a tough time and have breakfast with him. See how he really is.

Oh, and I found the bow to the shoe.

I'm glad you found the bow. It's so sad about Kate's suicide. I have struggled with depression for my whole life, which surprises some people who read my blog. We can get very good at hiding things from others. I hope that her death (and Anthony Bourdain's) will help in overcoming people's reluctance to talk about their mental health.

This is such a great reminder that we should reach out. Of course our lives are busy, but taking time for others is so important!!

The news about Kate Spade was so hard to read, especially as like you said, someone you associate so much with happiness and joy. Depression lies to everyone though and no-one is immune from it. I hope that at least some good can come from it and more conversations can be had and people can be more aware of how important their mental health is.

I hope you have a good time catching up with your friend.

Hope that you are having a lovely week so far :)
