Anger, Guilt & Remorse

Beware of Sharks striped tote bag Kate Spade, similar here

White dress no brand (similar, although expensive version) - Black flats Vera Wang Lavender - Black tee shirt

Eleven months ago, I bought this white dress, had it ironed then hung it in the closet, tags on. I had tried it on before but it never seemed to look good enough to wear. Wether it was too tight or I could not find something to layer it with, there was always a reason.
Every time I find a garment with the same conditions: new, unworn, hanging in the closet for almost a year, I have mixed feelings. First its anger, then guilt, followed by remorse.
This was one of the reasons at the beginning of the year I did a three month shopping ban, to wear all those new unworn garments. Looks like it was not enough.

  3. How interesting you talked about this, Lorena! I actually have a folder marked "regret" for a future blog post!!
Sometimes I think we just need another set of eyes to figure out what the item will go with, or if it needs alterations!!
I really think this dress looks great on you---what is it that you don't love about it??

  4. Well it looks very cute on you Lorena! I love the black tee underneath. We all have those kind of clothes in our closet. I do the same. It's the smart thing to do.

  5. I have a few pieces like that in my closet and they often elicit the same cycle of thoughts in me - and I think layering this with a black t-shirt was a pretty great way to go. It looks nice!

  9. Oh you should definitely wear this dress more, it really suits you. I do the same thing as you do though, pick an outfit and then it stays in my cupboards unworn for the longest time. I also love your Kate Spade bag :)

  14. I don't think i've ever done that myself as If i haven't worn it in a month it usually gets returned to the shop for a refund. It must be like shopping your own closet a year on when you find new things haha I would find it quite exciting. The dress looks lovely!

  15. It's a cute dress so I'm glad you got to give it a wear! :) It was all the new with tags unworn items in my wardrobe that made me start to change my shopping habits - but there is still a large number of things in my wardrobe that I've only worn a handful of times, I need to try turn that around btu I haven't figured out how to do that yet. THe 6 month no shop was good for me, but near the end winter arrived and I unboxed all my winter things...and haven't even worn all of them yet, so that's making me do another month of the no-shop to give me time to wear and enjoy the unboxed pieces before they get boxed away for another winter, ha!

  16. I have pieces I've never worn as well. I'm wondering if some still even fit too... There is always the same reasons, you just never feel like it looks good or works for the occasion or it needs to be altered and you haven't gotten around to it.

Forcing ourselves to confront these items is the best policy, so I'm glad this dress made it out of the closet!

  17. Sometimes an item needs to wait until you buy that perfect other item to go with it! It can be frustrating. Now when I buy something new I try and put together an outfit around it and hang it all together so I'm more likely to grab them! It's not failsafe, I certainly have a few items still with tags attached too...x
